Friday 7th May 2021
Your Qantas Flight from Brisbane to Longreach arrives mid-morning. We will be there to pick you up and we hit the ground running with a visit to the iconic Qantas Founders Outback Museum. We’ll get to know each other over a delicious lunch before Louise shares the first lesson on your camera’s features and functions. Then, take the opportunity to practice your photography on some of Australia’s most historic aircraft - these incredible machines make great subjects.
By mid afternoon you’ll be checking in to your luxury accommodation at Mitchell Grass Retreats. These newly established glamping tents will impress you with the attention to detail and the tranquil setting will inspire you and relax you.
The sunset and evening will be spent at Camden Park Station where you will be given a property tour with Station owner and host Outback Dan. With Louise as your own personal photography tutor you will be guided on the best tips for capturing nature at its best. Set a long exposure so you can grab a moment for a sunset drink and a deep breath of fresh outback air! You will then be served a heavenly 2 course dinner.
For those who wish, the day concludes with Luminescent Longreach. The light and sound show is world class and a recent addition to the Qantas Founders Museum to celebrate the national airline’s birth in outback Queensland and its 100 years of success.
Saturday 8th May 2021
Rise early for the golden hour light at sunrise at the Mitchell Grass Retreat. Dan will be there to give you coffee and Louise will teach you all the tricks to capitalise on sunrise. Learn about how exposure, light and moments contribute to your images. Enjoy a gourmet continental breakfast before freely exploring the beautiful surroundings, and paying attention to the little things.
Enjoy a few free hours, explore the main street of Longreach and keep practicing your photography, stop in at the local cafe for, ‘buy from the bush’ at one of many local retailers or get even more relaxed back at Mitchell Grass Retreats.
We will then depart and visit various local locations searching for those inspiring images and creating memories. Lily Lagoon, historic Starlights Lookout with 360 degree views of the area, Longreach township and the Saleyards all provide unique opportunities to capture something different; livestock, landscape and more! Louise will continue to expand your photography knowledge discussing subject matter and technique. Even our picnic lunch could become your subject matter!
Later, we will arrive at Weewondialla which provides vast landscape vistas, wildlife, birdlife and domesticated animals in droves and sensational sunsets. Mt Mitchell will be our final destination with spectacular views and a twilight photography session. Enjoy cool drinks and a 3 course sit down gourmet dinner under a blanket of stars. This night will be one to be remembered!
Sunday 9th May 2021
Arising in the dark will be worth it! We will transfer you to the Thomson River. The reflections on the still water are incredible to see and you will be able to show off your improved camera skills. A truly magnificent location and another moment to breathe, enjoy and click!
Breakfast will be back at the Mitchell Grass Retreats and is followed by a visit to the Australian Stockmans Hall of Fame. Take in stories about the Stockman of Australia and make the most of the time with Louise as the Hall of a Fame presents an amazing opportunity to capture incredible architecture and interiors, unexpected artwork and historical artefacts.
The Outback Click Workshop finishes with final reflections over lunch at the Hall of Fame before departing Longreach for Brisbane.
